Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District Manager of Environmental Services The Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District is situated in the heart of Vancouver Island with one of the most dramatic and majestic landscapes. The office is located in Port Alberni, which offers quality affordable housing and world class recreation and outdoor opportunities. Members of the Regional District include the municipalities of Port Alberni, Tofino, and Ucluelet, the first nations of Huu-ay-aht, Uchucklesaht and Yuu-thlu-ilth-aht and six electoral areas. The Alberni-Clayoquot Regional District is looking for a highly motivated, energetic individual grounded with local government experience to become a key member of a management team that is focused on providing quality local government services. Reporting to the CAO, the Manager of Environmental Services will be responsible for the planning, development, operation, and maintenance of the regional districts public works; this includes water systems, two landfills, recycling services, trails and parks and occupational health and safety. The position oversees capital works projects within the department. The department consists of four full time employees, seasonal employees and various contract services. The ideal candidate for this position will have extensive experience in all aspects of the administration and management of public works and the ability to adapt quickly to departmental demands. The preferred candidate will have a diploma or certificate in Civil Engineering or Certified Engineering Technologist, however those possessing a combination of similar training and experience will be considered. In addition, experience at the senior management level is required; certification under Project Management and Local Government are a definite asset. The successful candidate will have proven leadership and organizational skills, strong oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Have the ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff, citizens, business, regional and neighboring local governments, and other agencies and organizations.
